Bad dog! Socks are not chew toys. At least he didn't do more damage or eat it.

If you have more of the same wool, you can put something hard and round (darning egg - or a baseball) in the sock and then weave the new yarn in, following the stitch pattern. Use a blunt large eye needle to pull the yarn through and start at least 4-5 stitches away.

If you don't have anymore of the same wool, look for something that's close to the colour and weight in your stash or pick up one of the bundles of darning yarn at the local dollar store. The bundles often have a wide range of colours in them.

If you don't like the thought of a little lump where you overlap existing stitches, you can split your yarn into strands and reduce the bulk where the stitches overlap. If the lump is on top of the foot, it's not going to be felt as much as if it's on the bottom.

Good luck!

My sympathies. Dogs can be trained and socks can be darned. I've never darned a sock, but here is a link with instructions: http://www.hjsstudio.com/darn.html. I saved that almost a year ago.
